Now Amy Winehouse is dead, like many others whose unnecessary deaths have been retrospectively romanticised, at 27 years old. Whether this tragedy was preventable or not is now irrelevant. It is not preventable today. We have lost a beautiful and talented woman to this disease. Not all addicts have Amy's incredible talent. Or Kurt's or Jimi's or Janis's, some people just get the affliction. All we can do is adapt the way we view this condition, not as a crime or a romantic affectation but as a disease that will kill. We need to review the way society treats addicts, not as criminals but as sick people in need of care."

Missing Hardin County woman found safe

RADCLIFF, KY (WAVE) - The search for a missing Radcliff woman is over. Radcliff Police say 49-year-old Gwendolyn Payne was found safe in her home.

Payne was first reported missing early March 20 when she failed to show up for work. Radcliff Police tell us when they returned to Payne's home today, they found her under the bed completely covered in blankets.

Payne was awake and alert. She was taken to the hospital for observation.

* Why does our night cleaning crew at work such so much? I am 98.3% sure that all they do is empty the trash cans. You can take out all the trash you want...but if you never clean the bathroom floors, they won't clean themselves. Just sayin...

I was 16 and had stayed home from school with a stomach virus. I was laying in my bed watching the launch on TV. Back then, we didn't have 759 TV channels and news on 24 hours a day. The local station had interrupted regular programming and was airing the lift off of the shuttle. I still remember thinking it was all a mistake, that just a piece of the shuttle must have exploded. How could it just explode? I remember crying, thinking about how horrible it must have been for the family members to have watched their loved ones die.

Friday, 1/28/11, is the 25th anniversary of the Challenger disaster that took the lives of 7 astronauts, including schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe.

Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it. Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn't say much. I asked him what was wrong; He said, "Nothing." I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it. On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior I don't know why he didn't say, "I love you, too." When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. To my surprise, he responded to my caress, and we made love. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I cried. I don't know what to do.. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

I bought this little Mini Keurig Brewer at Kohl's in the summer. I must say, it has changed my life. I LOVE THIS LITTLE MACHINE! For several weeks, I kept this little gem in my office at work. After a while, I started to miss not having one home.

So much so, I found an upgraded model on e-bay and purchased a new one for my office and took the red mini home. I you love coffee or tea, this machine is a must!

I have read/seen several things lately that has really made me stop, scratch my head and say "hmmmmm"....

While driving to work yesterday morning, traffic slowed to a crawl. Once I was able to see a car on the side of the road with its blinkers on and trunk open, I assumed it was someone broken down. NOT! As I approached the car, I saw two men dragging a dead (I am only assuming it was dead, it LOOKED dead) deer from the median, through the metal fencing (to protect cars from hitting cars coming in the opposite direction) and into their open trunk.

I don't even know where to begin....When my kids were little, I was lucky if they would eat anything all day long. If a tiny bribe from a freakin' kids meal is what it takes, then what the hell is the harm? I know, I know...kids are fat these days. Well, I think one of the biggest reasons is technology. Kids have no reason to actually go outside and play like I did when I was little because they can be entertained for hours on end by pushing buttons on their i-pods, cell phones, lap tops, joysticks, remote controls, e-readers, i-pads.......the list goes on and on.

This story really touched a nerve with me and I hope this ban stays in crazy California where it belongs!

I was listening to the news on NPR and there was an interview with a high up dude at Frito-Lay. They were talking about how they are having to change the biodegradable bag that Sun Chips come in. Why? Hold on.....are you ready for this? Consumers were complaining the bags were too loud.....WTF?????? One consumer complained the bag sounded like broken glass while it was being opened.

I have to ask....DO SOME PEOPLE NOT HAVE IMPORTANT THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT???? Other than the sound their chip bag makes when they are opening it???

Kidney stones and Michael Buble...

Sorry for the long break guys, I have been dealing with my pesky kidney stones again. Memorial Day weekend I started getting the feeling I was about to pass one on my right side. I tried to ignore it, and it kinda went away. For those of you who are new to the blog, I tend to make my stones REALLY big. They don't like to pass on their own, and I have to have a procedure called a lithotripsy done to break them up so they will pass.

I was able to hang on for a couple more weeks, but by June 11th, I was in the emergency room. The ER doc could see stones in both kidneys, but they looked small enough to pass. So, I came home and called my Urologist. I wasn't able to get an appointment with him until the next Friday. The next week was filled with pain, nausea and just plain feeling bad. On the 18th, I saw my Urologist and he scheduled me for surgery the next morning, Saturday at 8:00am. I felt really bad because it was Fathers Day weekend, but it was then or I would have to wait until Wednesday.

I arrived at the hospital the next morning and the surgery took place. Only this time, the surgery was a little different. He wasn't able to perform the lithotripsy, the stone was embedded in my kidney and looked as if it was not going to pass on its own. Sooooo, my doc went all up into my kidney and grabbed the stone. OUCH! When I woke up in recovery, the first thing I realized is that I had a stent. A stent is a catheter that must be placed in the tube between the kidney and the bladder to ensure swelling doesn't block urine flow or the passage of any stones. The stent feels like there is a blow torch in your bladder each time you use the bathroom and when idle, it's just constant irritation, burning and pain. And, the stent usually has to be in at least 5-7 after surgery. It's really a great time! There are several different sizes, I have a picture below so you can get the idea of what they look like. My doc and I have a deal...he uses the smallest stent possible and I won't stalk him the entire time I have to wear it.

I had the surgery on Saturday morning and I was still not able to stand up straight or walk very far without having to sit down on Wednesday. I had an appointment to get the stent out Friday afternoon, but after a really bad day on Wednesday, I paged my DR and he agreed to take the stent out a day early. Which was really good for me, I needed the extra time to recover because we had plans to go to the lake last weekend with some friends.

Tuesday we had tickets to see Michael Buble in Indianapolis. HE WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, on our way home we took the kids to The Indianapolis Children's Museum. It is the best museum we have ever taken the kids to. It is really interesting, for the young and the young at heart. If you have never been, I would highly recommend it the next time you are near Indianapolis, you won't be sorry.

It's no secret I like to listen to NPR at work, and everyday I listen to several shows designated to the Gulf oil spill. Everyday the oil continues to gush into to the gulf I feel an anger building in me toward BP. I am not an engineer nor a biologist. But, one has to think BP could be using their resources better than they have.

I feel like BP feels as if they are the 'Donald Trump' of this catastrophe and will do what they want when they want to do it. I feel they believe they have the money and resources to NOT be told what to do. IMHO, that time has passed. I know there has been a hot line set up by BP for people to call with their ideas to help stop this spill and start the clean up. I wonder how many they have actually listened to? I know it would kill BP's pride if an idea was used by an outsider to fix this situation. But, there are a lot of intelligent people in the world with great ideas that don't get a paycheck from BP.

If BP is going to continue to try to stop this spill, unsuccessfully as of this blog post, on their own, Obama needs to take charge. Someone from Obama's team needs to sit down and seriously start going through the tips left on this hot line and weed out the really good ideas that could possibly save the Gulf and our beaches before it's too late. Because I'm afraid BP doesn't give a rats ass.

** When I finally get my radio tuned to NPR with NO STATIC and then I roll back to my desk and then there is static. WTF??????????

** When I am at someone else's desk at work and I need to borrow a paper clip and they are 'one of those' that likes to connect all of their paper clips. So when you try to pull one out of the little magnetic holder....23 also come out with the one you chose.

** Why don't bottle's of dish washing liquid for the dishwasher don't tell you how many loads of dishes the bottle will clean? I would really like to know this, so I can compare the bottle to the little square thingys....

** When I ask my teenage daughter to fold a load of laundry and she half asses and only folds about 2/3 of it. She usually leaves a couple pieces of clothes and some socks, and she never returns the clothes basket to the laundry room. WHY??????????

** When I grocery shop at Wal-Mart because they really do save me money...but then when it is time to check out, they only have 3 of the 56 registers open!

** When you are greeted by a hairball your daughters 'cute little cat' pukes up every day upon arriving home from work.

I love this new song by Miranda Lambert. Isn't it funny how a song can bring up so many memories and tell a story that could relate to so many people...

When I was engaged to my ex, my parents were building a house and selling the house my brothers and I grew up in. We talked about it and decided we would buy my parents house. I was so happy my childhood home would stay in the family. I really wasn't ready to let go of all the memories we had made in our house. It was also nice if something was broken or if we needed help fixing something I could just call my dad and he was familiar with the house he had lived in for 21 years.

I loved that old house. I brought my new babies home from the hospital to the house my parents brought their children home too. I put my girls on the school bus in the same driveway my brothers and I stood in many years before. My oldest daughter slept in the same bedroom that was mine while I was growing up. We would plant a garden every spring in the same patch of yard as my Dad many springs before. I would hang clothes on our clothes line to dry, the same way Mom had while we were little.

Thinking back now, I think I believed the house had some magical powers and would keep my ex and I together. It was always a happy place for my parents, so why would it not be a happy place for us?

It's a scary thing how the house that built you can also be the house that holds memories of smothering you, tearing you down and the end of a marriage.

I am happy to say four years later, My girls and I are building new memories and we have a wonderful new man in our lives, Dunnski. We have a new home, and our girls have a happy home that is building them everyday into the wonderful women they will become.

Sometimes I just want to give the world the finger. To tell everyone to back the fuck off. I'm not the type of person who normally asks people to justify their actions to me. If someone asks for help, I will usually just help, with no questions asked. It really bugs the crap out of me when I am asked to justify my actions or thinking. Why?? Because, I am an adult. I am NOT a crack whore. I am NOT a thief. I am NOT a lazy bum.

And while I am on one....it really bugs the holy crap out of me when someone tells you they will do something, and then they end up doing the opposite. Or they tell you they will help you with a project at work, and then are too busy. Or your ex is going to take your kids to a meeting....then doesn't. WTF????? If you say you will do something, then reach down and grab them and DO IT!!!!!!!!

Before I was a Mom, I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests. Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body..
I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love,
the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom.

I was in Big Lots (one of my favorite stores) on Saturday and I found these little French cookies, Noir Extreme.

I have to say these are the best damn French cookies I have ever eaten!

I can't even begin to explain how good these little boogers are...

I really enjoy listening to NPR, but on occasion they report stories that make my skin crawl. And, being an American citizen, I can change my radio station until the story ends. I have never felt the need to boycott my local NPR station because I have been offended.

So, my ranting begins...............

Last night on the way home, NPR played this story: Wisconsin Law Targets Race-Based Mascots. The story is centered around persons who are offended by school mascots.

School mascots. School mascots!! Really? My daughters (and I, back in the 70's) attended an elementary school where the mascot was the Braves, and the mascot was the cutest little Indian boy you had ever seen. I went to the schools website while typing this post, the Indian boy has been removed from the site and the word "Brave" is used very few times to describe the student body. Sad, very sad. Where do you draw the line? BEHS, where I, and my daughter now attends HS, has the 'Chargers', a horse for their mascot. And my youngest daughters new school is the PGES Dolphins. What is to say that someone isn't offended that we are 'violating' the rights of animals that cannot speak for themselves??? OMG!!! I need a nerve pill, or maybe 3 or 4 nerve pills. Stupid people really get on my nerves!!

In high school, Mr. Howard did a wonderful job teaching my class Civics at Bullitt East High, way back in 1986. I attended college where I learned about the United States governing bodies and it's laws. If there is one thing I learned from both of these settings:

"The First Amendment simply doesn't provide any of us with a right not to be offended."

When did Americans become such pansy wansies that we cannot just disagree with another person or groups views and call it a day? When did Americans call it upon themselves to take every issue they feel wronged by and make a spectacle out of it and themselves? When did we Americans become so thin skinned?

It really makes me sick and angry. I was listening to THIS STORY on NPR this morning on our way to work. Ms. Gaylor is upset and offended that she is being told by the government that she must pray today, on this National Day of Prayer. Now, I would like to ask Ms Gaylor. If you chose not to pray...will you be arrested? Will you taken out into the streets and stoned to death? Will you be raped and beaten? Will you be jailed and tortured until you are forced to pray in front of your captors?

I don't think so, because, Ms. Gaylor, you and I live in America, the home of the Brave and the Free. Not the lilly livered and the whiny assed! Now shut the fuck up and sit in your house with your thumb stuck up your ass and do whatever it is you do all day and don't pray today and everyone will be happy.
