Mentholyptus lover...

What happened....

I so remember these days...the days of happy giggles, cooing and no back sassing...

Those were the days of our lives. These are the days of our lives now...and the looks of our lives. I just wish I knew what went wrong....

Oh yeah....they learned to talk.

I just wish I could make my daughters understand that when I am asked a question and they do not like my answer, I am not giving them the green light for a mental stand off. I have the girls at work today, and they have both challenged me to a mental duel and it is not even noon. Give me a break! And I don't mean a Kit-Kat Bar (even though, that does sound good about now). My oldest is trying to talk me out of having her vaccinated. OMG! I have told her every time she asks me again about not getting her shots I am delaying her driving license by a month. I am at my wits end with her. This is to keep her healthy, I am not just being a mean mom. My youngest wants her friend to spend the night tomorrow night. Dunnski and I have to work Friday, the oldest is babysitting her sister during the day on Friday. I try to explain to the little argumentative 9 yr old that sleepovers are only on weekends and when an adult will be home. But does she care? Not really. She keeps on until I am mad. Why do they do that? I really need to know that other kids do this too. Anyone? Anybody? Hello????

Well...

I may as well stop hatin' on the cupcake cakes. The Kroger's and local bakeries of the world are NOT going to stop smashing perfectly happy cupcakes together to form hideously shaped objects they call 'cakes'. So, I am going to have to adapt.

Happy New Years Everyone!!

Very cool candle...

These candles are LED battery operated....and much, much less likely to burn your house down if you forget to turn them off.

Golden Winter Soup - Mmmmmm.....

Leeks and potatoes provide the base for this hearty vegetable soup, and butternut squash adds a hint of sweetness. Gruyère toasts add a salty note.

Yield

8 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 5 cups (1/2-inch) cubed peeled butternut squash (about 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 2 cups (1/2-inch) cubed peeled russet potato (about 12 ounces)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cups sliced leek (about 2 medium)
  • 4 cups fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 12 ounces baguette, cut into 16 slices
  • 3/4 cup (3 ounces) shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 3 tablespoons chopped chives
  • Freshly ground black pepper (optional)

Preparation

Preheat broiler.

Melt butter in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add squash, potato, salt, and pepper to pan; sauté 3 minutes. Add leek; sauté 1 minute. Stir in broth; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 20 minutes or until potato is tender, stirring occasionally. Place half of potato mixture in a blender. Remove center piece of blender lid (to allow steam to escape); secure blender lid on blender. Place a clean towel over opening in blender lid (to avoid splatters). Blend until smooth. Pour into a large bowl. Repeat procedure with remaining potato mixture. Stir in half-and-half. Cover and keep warm.

Arrange bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet; sprinkle evenly with cheese. Broil bread slices 2 minutes or until golden. Ladle 1 cup soup into each of 8 bowls; top each serving with about 1 teaspoon chives. Serve 2 bread slices with each serving. Garnish with freshly ground black pepper, if desired.

Some of the sweetest words I heard this holiday season...

* I love you Mommy.

* Will you marry me?

* It really is better with kids...

* We're home!

* You make me happy.

* Welcome to the family!

* You don't need a root canal.

* Merry Christmas soon to be Mrs. Dunnski!! (tee hee)

It's not Christmas without some Schweddy Balls...

Merry Christmas to all!

This is the one time I am glad my kids are too big to sit on Santa's lap...

Our youngest was and still is terrified of Santa. I would have to back her up to him as a baby and run away as I dropped her on his lap so the elf could snap the picture before she turned and had a nervous breakdown in the food court of the mall. Many times, I had to sit on Santa's knee with her in my lap, with her still hanging on to me for dear life. Good times.

A Christmas riddle...

What is the proper name for the image below:

Leave your answers in the comments and GOOD LUCK!!

I knew I shouldn't have had the 4th Vodka Tonic!

Don't get me wrong...

I like babies as much as the next woman....Arkansas family welcomes 18th child, a girl, but at some point......

YOU JUST HAVE TO STOP.

I would like to let the father, Mr Jim Bob* Dugger, (yes, that is his actual name *snicker*) know there is a way of preventing a 19th baby...it is called condoms. You can buy a condom at your local Wal-Mart, Thornton's or Speedway gas station in the men's room out of the little machine that hangs on the wall. All you will need is 4 quarters and have already decided on the color and scent you would like to purchase. This is where your lesson ends on this blog. You must continue your learning on the condom wrapper or with the gas station attendant. Either one will suffice.

Good luck and have a nice day.

Charmed
aka baby lover as well, but was smart enough to stop at two girls...because anyone who has had babies know...they grow up.

*Funny story about Jim Bob - My ex wanted to name our second born James Robert if she had been a boy, so he could call him Jim Bob. I told him the only way that would EVER happen, was if I died during the delivery. Good thing Ashley was a girl, I may not be here today if she wasn't.

Yes, it is true....

Oh yeah!

Peaceful Ocean...in the middle of winter.

I love this CD. I have ADHD and sometimes I need white noise to help me concentrate while working.
I found my copy at The Dollar Tree for a buck. You can also find copies on Amazon for .97 cents, http://www.stylefeeder.com/i/rxb7zt5w/Body-Amp-Soul-Peaceful-Ocean-Audio-Cd. I have other 'ocean sounds' CD's, but they all have the sounds of the birds or music. I was very happy to find just the sound of the water. Nothing more, nothing less.

Here is a description of the CD...
A simple recording of actual ocean surf; there is just the one track of 60 minutes in length so there is no disruption moving from one track to another. There are no extraneous sounds of birds, voices or instrumentals to complicate the lonely sounds of waves and gentle splashes from a calm ocean. These natural sounds are perfect for relaxing, sleeping, meditating, and romantic moments. Track #1, Gentle Waves.....

Ugh...

My secret diet weapon to losing the last 3 lbs I needed to fit into my Christmas party dress.
