You can't fault the logic, really. The only other way for that to happen without Observer A being dead is if he's keeping pace with the train, in which case the sound from the train is still traveling at the same speed relative to the observer, and thus experiences no frequency shift.(Can I help it if I used to be a physics major on scholarship?)
